Lisa Hoffman, DVM
When Dr. Lisa Hoffman was born, her mother received a gift that would be a sign of her daughter's childhood interest in animals and later a career in veterinary medicine, a puppy named Vickie. Dr. Hoffman was born in Baltimore and for the first several years of her life, she and her father visited the zoo every weekend. Later, after moving to a farm, she joined 4-H and participated in various dog-training projects. Dr. Hoffman even wrote the classic elementary school composition, "What I Want To Be When I Grow Up," about pursuing a career as a veterinarian.
Dr. Hoffman graduated with honors from Washington University in St. Louis with a Bachelor's degree in English Literature and a minor in Business before attending the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA for her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. Since 1989, she has practiced at large and small practices throughout Virginia and Maryland before opening her own in 1992.
Owning and operating a veterinary practice began as a childhood dream, which has now come true for Dr. Hoffman, as Hoffman Animal Hospital is currently a thriving part of the Annapolis community. Dr. Hoffman attributes the hospital's success to the dedication and hard work of her employees, and the thorough care given to each and every patient. The accomplishments of the hospital can also be attributed to the complete and thorough patient history evaluations and physical examinations, continuing into their stress on communicating clearly and in detail with the pet's caretaker.
As a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Anne Arundel Veterinary Medical Association, the American Veterinary Dental Association, and Maryland Veterinary Medical Association, Dr. Hoffman enjoys dermatology, ear, and dentistry cases, in addition to internal medicine. Over the years, Dr. Hoffman has found that the most rewarding aspects of her career are providing a better quality of life for a pet and improving the bond between a pet and an owner. When she helps an animal with either a medical or behavioral problem, she finds it extremely satisfying to see the pet become a more valued and appreciated member of its family. Dr. Hoffman treasures the families that she has known for so many years, and enjoys watching young children grow up and eventually come into the hospital with families and pets of their own.
Dr. Hoffman loves spending time with her own pets, a basset hound named Peaches, Chase, the chihuahua, and Nefer, the cat. When taking a break from her duties as owner and full-time veterinarian at Hoffman Animal Hospital, she enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with her nieces and nephew. Dr. Hoffman resides in Cape St. Claire with her husband Jeff.
