Three young girls, Christine (11) and Erica (6) of Arnold, and their cousin Jillian (12), of Yorktown Heights, NY, recently visited Hoffman Animal Hospital with a donation to our "Foundling Fund". The girls operated a lemonade stand for something to do on a hot summer day and made $20 in an afternoon. Christine, an animal lover, (according to Suzanne Vaaler, her mother, lover is not a strong enough word) plans a career as a veterinarian. When Suzanne asked her daughter what she was going to do with her earnings, her first response was "Hoffman Animal Hospital". She had also just earned some money as a mother's helper, and as a caretaker for a cat, and Christine wanted to donate that money as well. Jillian also gave some of her earnings, and Suzanne’s youngest, Erica, gave the $2.00 she earned as the "waver" that day. The girls pooled a total of $30.00 and had Suzanne drive them to HAH that evening to make their donation.
Christine was excited to donate the money and was thrilled to know that although it "would not be enough to pay for a surgery for an ailing animal", even this small amount would help an animal in need. Christine is committed to continue helping and donating, and says that she loves the feeling of giving.
On the evening when they came to Hoffman Animal Hospital, Casey greeted the girls and accepted the donation. She deposited the money into our "Foundling Fund", which is an account we set up for pets whose owners can no longer care for them. Casey also allowed the girls to play with her two dogs, Stanley and Darby, which was a hit! Suzanne wrote us later to let us know how excited Christine was to be involved with helping pets in some way, and assured us that we now have a helper: Christine will probably be here with an envelope again. She even spent some time here helping out during exams. We are proud to call all three girls Animal Advocates!
