Dental Cleaning and Polishing

Our doctors take the oral and dental health of your cat or dog very seriously and believe that it is an integral part of your pet's preventative care.

Dental Cleaning, Polishing and Surgery

More than 85% of pets have dental disease that requires immediate control or treatment. Routine teeth cleaning and polishing, radiography, treatment of advanced periodontal disease, extractions of diseased or infected teeth and minor oral surgery are the procedures we offer and perform for our patient’s as a complete dental program.

Your dog or cat's dental cleaning is far different than the same procedure you undergo each year at your dentist's office. Because anesthesia is required to keep your pet safe and still during the cleaning, we perform a thorough physical exam and blood tests to ensure thatbefore_and_after_dental_HAH.png your pet is healthy enough for this procedure. These tests also help us develop an individualized anesthetic protocol that is specific for your pet.

Once anesthesia is administered, the cleaning begins. We use modern and safe ultrasonic equipment to clean each tooth thoroughly, both above and below the gum line. Our specially trained dental technicians polish you pet's teeth, which creates a smooth, lustrous surface that is more resistant to plaque build-up. Finally, a fluoride treatment is used to help strengthen the enamel and reduce tooth sensitivity.

Digital Dental Radiology

A study evaluating dental radiographs of teeth without obvious lesions in dogs and cats  yielded some surprising findings. Patients with seemingly healthy teeth were found to have serious potential or actual lesions after evaluation of dental x-rays. These findings demonstrate that waiting for lesions to appear before intervening may put pets at risk.Dental Radiology is imperative to help recognize and diagnosis oral/dental disease.

Our skilled team members recognize dental and oral disease, and will design a comprehensive dental treatment plan of all appropriate services to treat your pet, and to promote complete health care. If we find evidence of gum or tooth decay, gingivitis, or excessive plaque buildup, we will discuss it with you and provide treatment options. Complicated or severe cases may require referral to a board certified specialist.
